According to Ayurveda "Sheeryate Anena Iti Shariram" which means something that decays every moment is called body. Keeping the body free from diseases and treatment of these diseases and also maintaining the the condition of good health have always been the main purpose of Ayurveda. Eating food with restraint which means the quantity of food to be eaten under the limit and following the rules of season , day-to-day life and following the right path are some of the ways to protect good health. |
The principle of Ayurveda "Yat Pinde Tat Brahmande" says that whatever is there in this universe is also present inside our body and therefore changes which are possible in the world and the universe are also possible in our body.
There are Six Seasons in one year and according to the Seasons if one takes food then he can keep oneself strong and can get good complexion and apart from this one can also protect himself from diseases of a particular season. Where is found the description of two periods in one year which are- Adankal and Visargkal. In Adankal the Seasons which come are- Shishir , Vasant , Grishma and in Visarg Kala the Seasons are rainy season or Varsha Ritu, Sharad and Hemanth.
Hemant season has a period between mid November to mid January.
Hemanth or winter season normal way of living
Features of winter season

Cold waves blow in this season and increases cold and decreases the atmospheric temperature.

When cold air touches our body thenl with the touch of the air the heat which tries to come out of our body gets trapped inside and it increases the appetite of the living beings. Cold and cold air both are responsible for increasing gas and cough due to which appetite increases and with this we get strength.

In this season sweet juice and the earth and water and Majabhoot food are advised to be taken. Besides one is also advised to take heavy and fatty food in this season.
Food to be taken in Hemant season
-
Sweet fruits, acidic , salty, heavy and fatty food are advised to be taken.

Amla, figs, apple, lemon, orange, spinach, bottle gourd, kinu, methi, cauliflower, carrot, maize, etc. are advised to be taken.

New rice, gram flour, urad, moong, kulath.

Amla and sugar cane juice.
-
Halwa, Ghee, milk, butter , curd, oil , sprouts, etc.
-
Dry fruits, almond, cashew nuts, pistachio nuts, fig Makhana.
Proper lifestyle for Hemant season

Use lukewarm water to bath.
-
Use lukewarm water to drink.
-
Wear warm or woolen clothes and protect yourself from cold waves.
-
Rub warm oil on the body and head.
-
warm up your body in sunlight.
-
Regular exercise or physical workout.
-
Among Panchkarma, use Abhyanga, Padabhyanga, Nasya, Udvartan, Pidichil.

Past to apply- Agru paste.
What not to take in Hemant season
-
Light and cold food or that which increases gastric should not be taken.

Take sumptuous food, don't Practice dieting.
-
Don't consume cold drinks, icecream , Sattu, fried food , etcetera.
Normal way of living for winter season :
Some diseases like heart problems , high blood pressure, asthma, joint pain and skin problems often occur in winter season and their symptoms, cause and cure are given below:
Heart diseases and high blood pressure
Heart is considered to be the foundation of the soul and in Ayurveda heart has been given the place of trimarma. It is also the origin of soul and juices. With the problems like gastric occur in the heart and cause trouble in Rasa- dhaatu and this way they cause obstacle in the functioning of the heart. Due to severe cold in winter season gastric and cough increase due to this cough is accumulated in Brussels due to which atherosclerosis and narrowing of blood vessels takes place. This increases the possibility of heart diseases. Due to low atmospheric temperature Vascontriction takes place and in this condition blood pressure level increases with increase in the flow of blood.
Cause of disease
Smoking, mental stress, heavy physical work, deep thinking, anger, consuming spicy , acidic food and a lot of salt apart from this roaming in the sun is also one of the reasons.
Symptoms of disease

Heaviness in heart, uneasiness or pain

Breathlessness in walking or while sitting

Irregular heart beats and dizziness

Feeling no taste or bad taste in mouth
Cure Stop smoking
Give up anger and excess thinking
Give up fried food, oily food

Simple physical workout and Jogging

Mix a little bit of pepper powder in bottle gourd juice and take it regularly

Among PraAasan, practise anulom- vilom, kapalbhati, bhastrika, Gaumukh Aasan, Bhujangasana, padmasana and shavasana regularly.
Herbal medicines

Divya Mukta Vati, Hridyamrit Vati, Arjun Kwath, Arjunarist, Trikatu powder , Panchkol powder , Mukta Pishti, Prabhakar Vati , Yogendra Ras, Jahar Mohra pishti, etc.

Kshirpak use of Arjun Chhal and mix pepper powder in bottle gourd juice and consume it regularly as it is very useful for the patients of heart complications and hypertension especially in the season of winter.

Arthritis
In Ayurveda Arthritis disease is called Sandhi Vaat. It is a Dhatu related disease which cripples our daily life. These days not only elderly people but youth are also found to be victims of this disease. It is one of the various types of gastric related diseases. It is caused due to uneven vaat or gastric problem and it's severity increases in winter season which appears in the form of pain and stiffness in the joints. For the patients of Arthritis winter season causes a lot of difficulties.

Medicinal yoga

Divya peedantak kwath, Maharasnadi Kwath, Nirgundi Kwath, Dashmool Kwath, Divya Vatari Churna, Ashwagandha Churna, Swarnamakshik Bhasma, Aekangveer Ras, Yograj Guggul, Mahayograj Guggul, Lakshadi Guggul, Peedantak Vati, Dashang Lep, Peedantak oil, Mahanarayan Tail.

Mix Ashwagandha powder Suranjan and Methi powder in milk and consume it as it is very useful in arthritis.
Panchkarma
Use Apna on joints and tie castor leaves , sendha salt , turmeric and ajwain on joints. Janubasti, Patrapotli and Swed, etc. Massage your joints by using oil.
Yoga Pranayam
Pranayam- Anulom -vilom, Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, Bhujangasana, Paschimottanasana, micro exercise of knees, Bhadrasana, Matsyendrasana, etc.
Asthma
Asthma is a disease which is caused due to obstacle at the source of the soul and it causes obstacle in the process of breathing. Due to severe cold condition in the winter season cough and Vaat increases which leads to increase in the level of cough in the chest and it obstructs the path of of air or windpipe which leads to complication in breathing process.

Ayurvedic treatment of asthma

Swasari kwath , Mulethi Kwath, Dashmool Kwath, Swasari Ras, Sitopaladi Churna, Trikut powder , Godanti Bhasma , Abhrak Bhasma, Swasari Pravahi, Lawangadi Vati, and Chyawanprash Awaleh and Vasa Chyawanprash are very useful medicines in the problem of asthma.

Using turmeric powder and Haridrakhand are very useful for the patients of Asthama.
Yoga Pranayam
Using jalaneti, Anulom - vilom, Baddha konasana, kapalbhati , Nadi Shodhan, Ustrasana, Dhanurasana, etc.
Panchkarma
Using virechana , sendha Salt on chest + nadi Sweden with oil massage.
Skin problems
Skin problems are caused due to problem in blood. Blood and pith both have similar kind of properties therefore in the winter season Pitta shows malfunction and blood becomes problem causing at this way many skin related problems are caused. If such problems are not treated well in the winter season then they become very troublesome in this season.
Symptoms of skin problems:

Dryness in skin, burning sensation , redness.

Kandu, chakta and Sphot in the skin.
Cause of skin complications

Eating excess of food which is acidic in nature and increases Pitta in the body , hot spicy food and eating food even before earlier eaten food is digested.

Doing physical workout after having eaten a lot of food.

Eating salty, sour and sweet food at the same time.
Cure for skin problems

Avoid using cosmetics containing a lot of chemicals and artificial colour, also avoid using excess of cream on your skin.

Avoid exposure to dust and soil.
-
Avoid wearing tight garments and also avoid a lot of sweating.
