Ayurveda is an ancient vedic system of treatment which gives a special approach towards health and welfare. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means ‘science of life’ and it’s a total treatment system which was developed to keep physical, mental and emotional in balance around 5000 years ago. This system helps us overcome tension, busy lifestyle and environmental pollution. It brings alertness and lessens pains from the body. In 1982, WHO validated ayurveda as traditional treatment which is in practice in the entire world.
Maharshi Sushrut who is considered as one of the prominent writers on ayurveda had said around 1000 AD, “A person is called as healthy if his/her body is balanced, his/her digestion is proper and his/her tissue and excretion are normal, his/her mind and sense organs are continuously in happy state. This system considers the people as a unit made of their mind, body and soul. According to WHO report, around 70-80 percent population of the world depends on herbal sources like alternative medicines for better health.
When ayurveda joins with yoga, it gives better health to body and mind and boosts lifestyle. Today, everybody is busy in his/her work. He/she has no time to take proper food and do yoga. Therefore, we fall prey to the disease. In comparison to allopathic, medicines made of plants are considered as beneficial and harmless. Therefore, there are huge demands of herbal formulation through which many medicines have been prepared. For the validation of ayurvedic yoga, best research system needs to be designed. Patanjali was set up to give authentication to ayurveda at international level.
At present, apart from ayurveda and yoga, the Patanjali is a committed FMCG company. Patanjali Research Institute, Drug Discovery and Development Division, which come under Patajnali Research Foundation (Trust) has its own research and development centre which has been presented by Param Shradheya Swami Ramdev Jee Maharaj and Param Pujya Acharya Balkrishna Jee Maharaj to the world. Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it in 2017. It’s situated at Roorkee-Hardwar highway, Hardwar, Uttarakhand.
A team of over 20 scientists having international experience is working tirelessly in the In-Vitro Biology Department. The team primarily is focused on treatment fields like digestion disorder, autoimmune disorder, gastrointestinal, heart diseases, obesity, diabetes, TB, pain, etc. At present, we are working on the ayurveda herbal medicines like divya pirdantak vati, ashvashila, divya amavatari juice, hridyamrita vati, sarvakalp quath, divya arogyavardhini vati, divya kayakalp vati, etc. Our department is equipped with ultra modern apparatuses. Our research programme gets extra boost in PRI due to inter-departmental research activities with support of Microbiology, Chemical Science and In-Vivo Department.
Biological test of prepared herbal ark and products contain water, alcohol and hydro-alcohol solvents. It includes phytochemical. In-vitro approach has been used on the basis of its cellular, physical and atomic form. We have various in-vitro cell models for separating mode of herbal yoga/ark activities through biological andpoints means cytotoxicity, enzymatic and bio chemical activities, high thruput parakh, oxidant tension, protein and gene expression, functional analysis. All these concluding points are gained through practical and apparatus technologies like bio chemical analyzer, spectrophotometer, pratidipti and varnimiti readers, elisa, microare, nano-string and flow cytometry.
We have tested various studies on in-vitro through the use of ayurvedic herbal yoga/ark and arrived at remarkable conclusion. We have published original essays of internal research like scientific report, frontiers in pharmacology. journal of ethno-pharmacology, atom, etc for many publications. We have gained anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effect and pidantak vati of herbal yoga and ashvashila and divya aamavatari juice and anti-inflammatory and analgesic capacity of polyherbal ayurvedic herbal formulation. An essay published on sibak kanta oil which showed anti-inflammatory and psoriasis probable. Similarly, in the study of psoriasis, we are searching for possible effect of herbal preparation at cytokine level in psoriasis model influenced by lipopolisekeraid. We have tested ayurvedic herbal formulation on rectifying cardiac hypertrophy by using cardiac cell line. This study is in the last phase. Recently, we have presented a research paper on anti-inflammatory effect of ayurvedic herbal oil on in-vitro model in which lipopolesekeraid and TPA are likely to include. Apart from that, we are conducting research on the protective effect of ayurvedic herbal preparation on lung damage due to smoke and ovalbyumin influenced asthma model. Our institution has been registered by Institutional Bio Science Committee under Bio Technology Department, Science and Technology Ministry, New Delhi for exchanging and controlling biohazards related to use of bio, microbiologists and harmful agents. The lab facilities available in the department comply the bio-safety level-2. We have Patanjali Research Institution website which gives information regarding patanjali tribunal, health enquiry, herbal dictionary, herbal garden, herbarium, taxonomy, ancient manuscript, machine museum, department, facilities, achievements and career, etc.
We aim at presenting solid scientific proofs on alternative products of plants through scientific approach and conclusions. They will be beneficial for public health. The traditional treatment is appropriate for national health policy. In the matter of ayurvedic medicines, most of the medicines are polyherbal yoga and appropriate quality control is still a serious issue. There are some processes for analyzing these drugs for their structure and power. Therefore, it needs to be maintained standard quality. The treatment approach of ayurvedic herbal treatment can be boosted with identity, purity and biological merits. In the last few decades, the development of ayurvedic herbal treatment is getting momentum for betterment of public health keeping safety, stability, effectiveness and quality in mind. According to a research, there is no important scientific proof available for proving effectiveness of ayurvedic treatment for treating any disease. However, massage and rest have always been considered as beneficial. In the western countries, there is no provision for license for ayurvedic system, despite, it’s considered as an alternative safety. Therefore, we can prove our medicines by creating solid scientific proof and bring ayurveda on the international platform.
