Haridwar, January 17 | Ashwagandha awareness campaign sponsored by National Medicinal Plant Board, Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi and State Medicinal Plant Board, Dehradun was organized by Patanjali Research Institute, Haridwar. This program was organized in the auditorium of the administrative building of the university in collaboration with Patanjali Ayurveda College and Hospital, Haridwar. In the seminar, Param Pujya Swami Ramdev Ji Maharaj, Founder President of Patanjali Yogpeeth, talked about the medicinal importance of Ashwagandha. He discussed in particular the agricultural technology and value addition of Ashwagandha. Swami Ji told that following the ancient sages, Patanjali Research Institute has done many researches on Ashwagandha and has created effective medicines, which are benefiting the sick humanity today. He informed that many research papers of Patanjali based on Ashwagandha have been prominently published in world famous international research journals Biomolecules, Journal of Applied Microbiology, Plos Neglected Tropical Diseases, Planta Medica, Phytomedicine Plus and Pharmacology of Medical Plants. The chief guest of the symposium, Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Kumar Dadhich (Chief Executive Officer, National Medicinal Plant Board, New Delhi) gave important information about the objectives of the symposium and the cultivation of Ashwagandha. Dr. Nirpendra Chauhan (Chief Executive Officer, Uttarakhand State Medicinal Plant Board) discussed various government projects in Uttarakhand.
Dr. Ved Priya Arya (HOD, PHRD) gave detailed information about the symposium. Dr. Anurag Varshney (Vice President, Patanjali Research Institute) introduced the guests in the welcome speech. In the program, the booklet 'Ashwagandha' was released in the presence of the honorable guests. In the technical session, Dr. Narendra Bisht, Dr. Prem Prakash Yadav (Senior Principal Scientist, Department of Pharmaceutical and Process Chemistry, Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow), Dr. Tripta Zhang (Principal Scientist, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants), Dr. Sumit Purohit (Scientist-in-Charge, Regional Centre Patwadngar, Nainital Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council) etc. discussed the agricultural techniques of Ashwagandha and raising awareness for its cultivation. Dr. Ram Shankar Pathak (Scientist-E, PHRD, Patanjali Research Institute) spoke about the Ashwagandha project at Patanjali. Dr. Anupam Shrivastava (Emeritus Scientist and CKO, Patanjali Herbal Research Division) gave the concluding remarks. A parallel poster session was also organized in which the posters presented by the scholars were evaluated by the Hon'ble Judges.
Around 200 farmers and more than 400 scholars registered for the symposium. The participants were distributed an Ashwagandha booklet, an eco-friendly pen containing Ashwagandha seeds and a symposium kit. On this occasion, free distribution of Ashwagandha plants was also done. Dharti Ka Doctor (soil testing kit), organic pesticides, DAP and Patanjali organic fertilizer stalls were also the center of attraction of the seminar.
