Carrier of culture Shardiya Navasasyeshti festival

Vedic culture and a series of festival have been appealing for prosperity in our life since time immemorial. In the series of festival, the festival begins with shardiya navratra and ends with devotthan ekadashi in autumn season. Terming abhyudaya and nishshreyas as necessary, deepotsav has been celebrated as shardiya navsasyeshti since time immemorial in the vedic culture. Shardiya navasasyeshti means a vast yagya.
Shardiya and navasasyeshti emanate from Sanskrit in which shardiya means nav (new), sasya means crop, ishti means yagya are included in autumn season. Here, navinam cha tat sasyam-navsasyam is samadhikaran samas in the word nav and sasya, which means naya dhan ya new crop, then navasasya and navasasyena ishtih-navsasyesthih is third samas in ishti which means yagya from new crop.
According to vedic culture, crops in autumn season is offered in yagya, then it’s used. The yagya performed through new paddy aahuti is called shardiya navasasyeshti. All of our traditional festivals whether it’s shardiya navsasyeshti (Deepawali), or phalguni navsasyeshti (Holi) or shravani upakarma (rakshabandhan) are celebrated with yagya rituals in which the nature is directly related to. The basis of vedic culture are yoga and yagya and the yagya is extolled in the Gita (3.13) as following-
Yagshishtashinah santo muchyante sarvakilivshaih I
Bhunjate te tvagham papa ye pachantyatkaranat II
It means that remaining of yajan should be used to get rid of all the sins.
Asato ma sadagamaya, tamaso ma jyotirgamay, mrityotma amritam gamaya I  Defining this message, the Deepawali also gives many sutras. It provides infinite energy and encourages to eradicate falseness. It also wipes out darkness in our life.
Truly, the intention of renunciation, donation gets bolstered through yagya. It means that the yagya is vital for the Indian festivals and gives message of sarve bhavantu sukhinah.
Many incidents have been linked to Deepawali for example- Lord Rama’s Ayodhya arrival, enlightment of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati and Lord Mahavira. Deepawali is also celebrated as bandi chhor divas in Sikh religion. Historically, the importance of this day gets increased due to incidents.
Deepawali is a festival of many days. First of all, Dhanteras means Dhanvantari Triyodashi is celebrated. According to vedic culture, Dhanteras symbolises health. On this day, Lord Dhanvantari is revered for health. Dhanvantari is considered as god of Ayurveda. Presently, purchasing jewelleries and utensils is known on Dhanteras. The people believe that it brings prosperity. Some traders sell items on inflated rates.
The next day of Dhanteras is celebrated as narakchaturdashi or small Deepawali in which the houses are cleaned and the very next day shardiya navasasyeshti is celebrated on the amavasya of Kartik month.
But irregularity emerged in this festival with passage of time. The pollution, superstition and addiction became the part of this festival. Economy and environment get affected during Dashahara and Deepawali. The people suffer from respiratory disease and allergy. The many people are seen indulging in betting during Deepawali. It’s prohibited in vedic culture. ‘Akshairma Deevya’ means don’t do betting. There is no place of wine, betting and firing crackers in our festivals. The so-called educated people are practising it. According to our vedic culture, Udyanam te purush navyanam- means oh human beings! Arise, you have come here to arise. Therefore, ponder over it and avoid detrimental path and go ahead on development path.
Today, there are many deformities in our festivals. There is a need to know reality of every festival. It’s our duty to celebrate the festival as per vedic tradition.
