Influence of Sanatan Dharma on European Humanitarianism
On
Prof. Rameshwar Mishra Pankaj
Rishi Vashistha has said in Vashishtha Dharmasutra that truth, non-violence, lack of anger and giving birth to offspring is the Dharma of all human beings. (4/4 & 10/30)
It has also been said in Gautam Dharmasutra that the truth, lack of anger and purity are meant for all Varnas or all strata of the society. (10/52)
In the Rajdharmanushasan of Shanti Parva of Mahabharat, chapter 60th, Shlokas- 7th and 8th-
Akrodhah Satyavachanam Samvibhagah Kshama and
Prajananah Sweshu Dareshu Shauchamdroha Aecha Cha ll
Arjavam Bhrityabharanam Navaite Sarvavarnikah l
(This means lack of anger, truth, equitable distribution of wealth with justice, forgiveness, giving birth to our own child from our wife, internal and external purity, being non-violent to all living beings, non-violence, simplicity of mind and behavior, taking care of our servents properly, these nine qualities are explained everywhere which means for all strata of the society these qualities are to be imbibed)
In Vaman Puran, Chapter 14th, Shloka – 1st, 2nd, 18th, 19th , for Varnas these ten qualities are to be imbibed as they are called in true sense Sadachar or good conduct of life:
Ahinsa Satyamasteyam Danam Kshantirdarmah Shamah l
Akarpanyam Cha Shaucham Cha Tapashcha Rajnichara ll
Dashango Rakshasashreshtha Dharmauasau Sarvavanikah l
Brahmanasyapi Vihita Chaturashramyakalpana ll
Tasyam Swaroopam Vakshyamah Sadacharasya Rakshasa l
Shranushvaikamanastachcha Yadi Shreyoabhivanchhasi ll
Dharmoasya Moolam Dhanamasya Shakaha
Pushpam Cha Kamah Phalamasya Mokshah l
Asau Sadacharataruh Sukeshina
Sansevito Yena Sa Punyabhoktah ll
(This means the sages asked questions with dedication and humility that o king of demons, while resolving the curiosity of Sukeshi, he said that O king of demons- non-violence, truth, Asteya and giving alms, peace, self restrain, Shama, generosity, Shauch and Tapsya- These are ten qualities meant for all Varnas or all strata and besides them for Brahmins there has been the provision of four Ashrama Dharma. The origin of good conduct is Dharma and the Dhan or wealth is its branch and desire is its children and Moksha or salvation is its end result and those who follow the right path happen to be always happy and finally they get salvation.)
This way the path of Sadachar or right path is meant for all human beings and normal Dharma and human Dharma is the right path and the qualities and tendencies of which have been mentioned in the scriptures and of king Mahadev of Devgiri and after him of King Ramchandra Dev, the documents of his minister and head of his achieve Hemadri Vatsa has in detail has mentioned what is normal dharma meant for all humans. It has also been mentioned in Vishnu Dharmasutra and these 14 qualities are called general Dharma-
Kshama Satyam Damah Shaucham Danamindriyasanyamah I
Ahinsa Gurushushrusha Teerthanusaranam Daya II
Arjavam Lobhashunyatvam Devabrahamanapujanam I
Anabhyasuya Cha Tatha Dharmah Samanya Uchyate II (2/16, 17)
(This means forgiveness, truth, power, sacredness, alms, restrain of self, non-violence, serving guru, and listening his words, following the path of them and visiting pilgrimage centres, lack of greed and lust and offering prayers to god, and being respectful to Brahmins. These are the 14 qualities of normal dharma or Humanitarianism.)
In the form of this normal Dharma or Manav Dharma the moral values which have been expressed and are in the territory of Sadachar and Karmaphal this is called Sanatan Chakra and the principle of Karmaphal and seen by sages and in the event of discipline and they are based on the principle of life and the truth of Punarjanma. In every individual there has been the witness of internal Karmaphal and he is the witness of the next birth and also the sanskars and results to be received in that birth and karma is the basis of sanskars and results. All the inner beings are the objects of the same original Supreme Being. Therefore, on a broad level and at a subtle level, the effect of one's actions in the environment is also beneficial for the other. Therefore, good deeds have a beneficial effect on all and misbehavior has a bad effect on all.
Other persons to whom the person's intellect and mind have a strong passion (i.e. towards whom there is a deepening of intimacy), are reflected in the consequences of that person's conduct. In the same sense, the child has to bear the fruit of the father's actions and the partner has to bear the fruit of the wife's or husband's actions, and in the same sense, the results of the actions of individuals affect the entire family or family partly. The king's intimacy or affection comes from the entire state, so the whole state has to bear the fruits of his actions. Thus the principles of karma and rebirth are the basis of ethics and morality. That is why for the proof of virtue, both Shruti and the light of conscience have been accepted. Due to these two grounds, all the commentators of the scriptures have kept their main focus mainly on the pious people of India. But he has always been making it clear that the human religion is for all human beings and the general form of it is the common religion or the common religion or the common religion. Which is compulsorily maintainable for all and their neglect causes pain to all and happiness is attained by their observance.
The difference is that all these renderings have been made keeping in mind the universal supreme authority and universal laws, not keeping in mind any king or emperor or cult originator. That is why when it is said that these common religions are for all and are followed by all, then it is preaching and orderly in the sense of preaching. But it is not accepted by any theologian author of his scripture. Not in the form of any punishment for the people.
Form of European Humanism
The concept of humanism first appeared in Europe in the 19th century AD. Since any idea presented by you It is necessary to show in the continuity of the ancient. That is why the proponents of European humanism began to attribute human qualities such as compassion and empathy as the basis of their description in one of their ancient texts. But it has to add a distant connection. Because never in the past has there been any talk of humanity or of humanism in the known history of Europe. Because the young philosophers like Cicero etc. have spoken of man only in the context of enumerating his characteristic that man has speech and language. This point is also false and baseless because in fact speech and language belong to every living being, not only to human beings. As it has been said time and again in all the scriptures in India that intelligence and knowledge are not only in humans but also in other beings and many types of intellectual powers are more in other creatures than in humans. In Shri Markandeya Purana, in the Goddess Mahatmya (which is worshiped all in the form of Shri Durga Satpashati) it is said in the first chapter itself-
Gyanamasti Samastasya Jantorvishayagochare l
Vishayashcha Mahabhaga Yati Chaivam Prithak Prithak l
Divandhah Praninah Kechidratravandhastathapare ll
Kechiddiva Tatha Ratraupraninastulyadrishtayah l
Gyanino Manujah Satyam Kim Tu Te Na Hi Kevalam ll
Yato Hi Gyaninah Sarve Pashupakshimrigadayah ll
Gyanam Cha Tanmanushyanam Yattesham Mrigpakshinam ll
(i.e., all beings have knowledge in all subjects. Subjects are also different for different beings. For example, some beings do not see in the day, for them only the night is the subject. For others, the subject is day. It is visible and they are not visible at night. While some others are equally visible in both day and night. Animals, birds and deer etc. have understanding in all creatures and that understanding is not less than human beings.)
This way living beings have different types of intelligence and their e language also differs. But there is no being wholly devoid of the power of perception.
The problem is that Christianity developed in Europe in the Middle Ages had no concept of humanity. First of all those people i.e. the medieval chief priests explained that soul is only in male, female does not have soul and there is no question of soul in other creatures. He then established that the male who has found the light of Jesus is developed and cultured, rest all male are also immersed in darkness. Women are soulless.
After scientific progress, for the first time in the 19th century, it arose that all human beings have something in common. From this onwards some people started talking about humanism in the sense that Christianity and Islam consider the followers of their respective religion and religion to be superior and others as inferior, which is wrong and all human beings should have some common element. This issue arose especially after the French Revolution and the rise of Hegel's followers in Germany. It said that there should be a distinction between human beings on the basis of believing or not believing in the supernatural power of God, the Father of Jesus, or on the basis of whether or not to accept Muhammad as the last Messenger. It is unfair to do But in fact systematically a manifesto of humanism.
First issued in 1933 AD at the University of Chicago, USA. In which there was John Dewey and some other pastors. In this, rationality and social and economic justice were considered as the main and emphasis was given to the importance of science in place of Christian theories. It was said that morality and right and wrong should be decided on the basis of scientific analysis. Rousseau and Edmund also spoke of humanism. These people also talked about the right of every adult person to vote.
It was emphasized that this thing should be said and written well. This humanism became prevalent mainly among writers and intellectuals. In the 20th century, these people made the earlier polytheistic ideas of Christianity the basis of humanism in Europe. Their main emphasis is on science.
Was. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo emphasized the study of the human body and also created many sculptures depicting the human body, which became very famous. Gradually the idea of humanism against Christian orthodoxy emerged and spread and European humanists strongly supported the independence of various colonies of the world. American writer Thomas Paine took the full side of humanism. A writer named George Elliot (whose original name was Mary Ann Evans) promoted humanism fiercely. Julian Huxley, Brock Chishom and John Bryde became the three famous humanists.
At present, there is a large intellectual class in Europe supporting humanism. They believe that human being is the starting point in all fields of social, economic, political and intellectual. All contemplation should be done keeping the human being in the center. Human freedom and progress are the greatest ideals. The main features of this humanism are the belief in an inherent dignity of all human beings and their mutual internal equality. This man should be worried the most in the world, he believes that. That is why these people keep themselves away from Christianity, Islam and all other such sects which are sects that want to control the essence of the world according to the ideas of one prophet or messiah. The opposition to communism is inherent in this because the entire enlightened world deeply hates communism after the ghastly murders of crores of innocent people in 75 years by ruling or ruling groups who call themselves communists. These humanists call themselves 'secular' in the sense of not being bound by any religion or religion or political creed. This is because on average every Christian European considers himself 'religious'.
But here a very strange situation arises in relation to India. The communists in India and all such groups who are very narrow-minded and want only their sect to dominate the world, they are all against Hindus and call themselves secular only because they want the destruction of Hindu religion. In this way, calling themselves secular by them is a strategic and deceitful move. This purpose of theirs is easily proved by calling themselves 'secular' by many intellectuals who call themselves pro-Hindutva. In foreign countries, they take many benefits by showing themselves as secular and gather support. Whereas no humanist person in Europe is ever opposed to Hinduism. In this way the so called 'secular' of India are saving their existence only with the help of deceit.
