What is the nature of the desire to attain the knowledge of the Gita?

What is the relation of the speaker with the subject, purpose and authority? So this relation is that those who want to acquire knowledge, want to get knowledge and want to make others strong through that knowledge, then this is what they have achieved. This is the four anubandhas: what is the subject, what is the purpose, who is the authority and what is the relation of this work, this karma with the subject, purpose and authority? It is necessary to know this first.
What is my relation with this discussion? The relation is that I have been studying Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta from a very young age, due to the sanskars of previous births. At a very young age, I had memorized all 700 verses. Then, in my life, while performing my dharma as per my capacity and understanding, while performing my duties, I have also been meditating on this knowledge. However, I did not speak or write on this because I always felt whether it is right to speak or write or not. Because there are many knowledgeable people, many saints, many great devotees. I keep listening to them. We all should listen to them. He is a great scholar. There are dozens of great saints including Param Pujya Swami Ramdev Ji Maharaj, Param Pujya Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj. Read and listen to them.
But now I felt that there are some things that I can tell useful things to those who are not very knowledgeable and not even very accomplished devotees but who are still in between. This is a small service. A small ritual. A small task. I am doing it. This is not a claim of any kind that I am the ultimate authority on the Gita or that I have the most knowledge of the Gita. Not at all.
So we will discuss and discuss together in a way. By spending a little more time in this, by meditating on it, by thinking about it, I can help the readers. That is why I have started this series, and whoever wants more knowledge, then there are many great men including Pujya Swami Ji in India who are giving knowledge on the Gita, one should go to them. We can inspire you to go to them, this is its significance. So this is an effort to give information about the Gita to those people who are not very high level devotees and not even high level scholars but are a little like us or are one or two classes below us. This is the connection of this article with the subject.
Vishwa-Mimamsa, Atma-Mimamsa, Brahma-Mimamsa
There are two or three things in this. Vishwa Gyan, Atma Gyan and Brahma Gyan. We will discuss how all three have been presented in the Gita. The traditional style is to pick up one shloka from the beginning and then explain their meaning. That will not be done. If you yourself are very curious to know according to the Gita, according to the shloka, then you should memorize the shloka of the Gita and I will also request those who are listening to me that at a very young age, as far as possible, if the child is intelligent and has a good memory, then he should be made to memorize the Gita. There are many benefits of this. He will not know the meaning. For example, when we memorize Ashtadhyayi, initially we don't know its meaning. We listen to it from the Guru. We practice it again and again. Then we gain knowledge of grammar. I cannot claim till date that I know complete grammar because I did not spend enough time systematically. So I always ask even those who are brahmacharis, "Brother, what is the root of this word? How can it be proved that it is formed from this? Please tell me." Because many new words come up, I have not spent that much time. But still one must memorize. Ashtadhyayi must be memorized, if you are interested then you must memorize all the sutras of Yoga Darshan and even if you do nothing else, memorizing 700 verses of Gita is not difficult and it has many benefits. There are many friends who came in contact with me after they had attained a mature age like me and because patriotism was my strongest desire, aspiration, so according to my understanding, I kept thinking, reading and writing more about the country: I kept reading more about history and political science etc. So many said that brother, you are never seen reading this. You have not read the Gita. There are many people who say that you are not seen reading the Gita and the Upanishads in 25 years. But when you speak, you speak shlokas, chant mantras, so where did it come from? So it came from what you had memorized well in childhood again and again. Therefore, memorizing 700 shlokas is not a difficult thing and every person should memorize it. At least your children should be made to memorize it in their adolescence itself. I too had memorized everything by the age of 11, Ashtadhyayi and also 700 shlokas of the Gita. This should be done. Even if you have not done it, you can definitely join this discussion. But there are lots of benefits in memorizing things, that is why many people used to memorize things earlier.
Now it is probably not like that, otherwise earlier there was an environment around that if he reads the Gita, he will become a sanyasi. My parents were also very afraid because father and mother used to read Ramcharit Manas a lot, they also sang it but they had not read the Gita. They only listened to it. Sometimes they also had this fear. The people of the locality also said that he will become a sanyasi. But it is a matter of luck that they did not stop me and then I did not become a sanyasi. By the way, do not think that it does not have any effect. The Gita has an effect and at one time a strong desire to become a sanyasi was also awakened in my mind. The date of initiation was also fixed. But then I met a Siddha Purusha and he said that you still have Rajoguna and looking at my forehead he said that you still have the signs of being a householder. You are going to become a householder later on. At that time I was very young so he said that you will live a householder's life. After that you can take sanyasi or not as per your wish. You will live like a sanyasi. But first you will have to go into a householder's life. So because I had a lot of respect for him, I agreed. So even after the date of initiation was fixed, I did not take sanyas and he was proved right. But sanyas is not such a reprehensible thing that if your child reads the Gita and takes sanyas at a young age, it will be auspicious. 'Dhany Janm Jagati Tal Tasu' The life of the one who follows the religion propounded by Lord Rama is blessed, isn't it? And it is also said:- 'Dhany Janm Jagati Tal Soi. Raghupati Bhagat Jaasu Sut Hoi.' If the son is a devotee of Lord Shri Ram and Lord Krishna, starts reading the Gita, starts reading the Ramayana, gets lost in it, then not only the life of that child is blessed but the life of his parents is also blessed. So don't be afraid.
By the way, there are one or two in millions who become sanyasis just by reading like this. The Gita is also important because it is the essence of all the scriptures. Studying all the scriptures is only for those who have values, environment and inspiration in their lives. But if every follower of Sanatan Dharma wants to know them in essence, which is a must, then he must read the Gita. So, that is why we all should acquire the knowledge of the Gita and then it is not achieved by just reading it or knowing its general meaning, but by listening to it again and again from the mouth of the Guru or scholars, from the mouth of many saints and mahatmas and then meditating on it. Then it gradually becomes strong. Why does it take time? Even if we listen to anything, why does the mind not remain stable on it? The answer to this is also in the Gita. Today, let us tell you only one thing in the form of the introduction that generally the doubts that Arjun raises, what will happen, everyone will die and then the clan will be polluted and we will all go to hell and how much stigma will we bear -
Aho vat mahatpapan kartun vyavasita vayam.
Yad rajyasukh-lobhen hantum svajanam udyata:. (1/45)
All the doubts Arjuna raises, God refute them all. He refute them right from the beginning - 'Ashochyananvashochastvam prajnavaadaamashcha bhaashase.' (2/11)
'Hey, why are you showing off your scholarship, showing off your wisdom, and you are thinking, contemplating and worrying about such things which are not worth thinking about. Then you are a fool. In a way, he said. Or he said: 'Klaivyam maasm gamah Parth' - Hey Parth, do not get into klaivya. Klaivya means shrinking. People take it to mean sexual matters. Whereas its real meaning is to shrink. Not blossoming completely. To shrink. So God says to Arjun:- Your mind has shrunk. You are becoming detached. Who is detached? One whose mind has been extinguished. One whose mind has shrunk. So, in the matter in which your mind has shrunk, you are detached, impotent. For us it is not only related to sex. Whatever subject you are not proficient in. Many people in politics are impotent. By being in politics you got big positions and still if you do not do anything then they will say- 'Hey, you are impotent, you are an impotent politician.' It has nothing to do with sex life. You have come to power and the use of power that you had declared was that we will serve the country, we will serve the society, we will protect the country, we will protect the borders, we will do the welfare of the people, we will maintain the religious dignity in the society, we will maintain law and order, whatever you pledge, when you do not do it then the religious people say - 'You are impotent. Impotent in this matter. You are impotent in the subject you had claimed.'
So God says:- Hey, you had come here to fight, right? You had come as a brave man, right? You did not come as a coward in the battlefield. So after coming here your heart is shrinking. O Parth, do not fall into the trap. Fight with open heart. How to fight? He further describes:- Do not fall into the trap. Do not shrink. Do not do so many calculations. He thinks that he is my maternal grandfather, he is my grandfather, he is my father, he is my uncle, he is my brother, he is my so and so, he will die. Shrinking the mind after doing so many calculations, this is the trap. Most of the leaders are cleaved in this sense. They do not protect the religion. They remain busy in the calculations of power, so from the viewpoint of religion they are cleaved.
The main thing is that whatever doubts Arjun raises, it will not happen this way, it will not happen that way, if I am not able to follow this tomorrow, will I not be destroyed? Will I not be torn to pieces? I will neither be here nor there.
Bhagwan tells all of them that no, no. ‘Na hi kalyankrit kashchid durgati taat gacchati.’ (6/40) No step taken on the path of welfare is futile. He resolves all. Whatever doubt Arjuna raises, whether it is about the killing of his father, uncle, paternal uncle, brother, making his sister-in-law and aunt a widow or killing of brothers, the sins incurred due to killing of father, uncle, grandfather etc., the sins incurred due to that, the sins incurred due to snatching the kingdom from brothers, what if I stray from yoga? What if I am destroyed? ‘Kacchinno bhaavyavibhrashtashchinna bewhita nashayati.’ (6/38) What if this happens. So Lord Krishna refutes all these. No, no-no, it is not like that. Somewhere he says that you should not be disgraced. Do not think about the unbecoming. Do not show off too much scholarship and wisdom. You are a fool and you are showing off wisdom. He is talking about being a Pandit. He says everything. He refutes everything. Arjun has just one doubt, which God accepts and says that yes, your doubt is correct.
What is that? When he says that -
‘Yoyaam Yoga: Tvaya Prokta: Samyen Madhusudan.
Atsyahan na pashyaami chanchalatvaat sthitiam sthiram.’ (6/33)
O Lord, I do not think I will be able to remain stable in the yoga you have told me. Chanchalam hi: man: Krishna. O Krishna, the mind is fickle. So this is a doubt which Lord Krishna immediately accepts.
‘Asamshayam mahabaho mano durnigraham chalam.’ (6/35)
Lord Krishna immediately accepts that yes, the mind of a person is fickle. There is only one thing, only one doubt of Arjuna to which he says that yes, your doubt is correct.
Lord Krishna says – ‘Asamshayam mahabaho mano durnigraham chalam.’
Oh Mahabahu, there is no doubt. There is no doubt that this mind is very difficult to control and it is fickle.
So whatever we hear, whatever scriptures we hear, it should remain stable in our mind, for this, control of the mind is necessary, isn’t it? Arjuna also said the same, isn’t it?
‘Chanchalam hi man: Krishna, pramathi balvad dridham.’ (6/34)
O Madhusudan, this mind is fickle by nature, it keeps churning the mind, it is very strong and it is firm in this tendency, it remains engaged in this tendency. Like lust, it is fast, powerful, very strong and firm. So God also says - Asanshayam Mahabaho, Mano Durnigraham Chalam''.
So how can the mind be made capable of fixing the knowledge of the scriptures in the mind. Then it becomes eligible to accept the knowledge of the scriptures, practice the knowledge of the scriptures. Fix it in the mind in such a way that it bears fruit in our actions. That is, the scriptures become a part of our sanskaar. It becomes fixed in our memory.
Every memory gives birth to some desires and every desire ultimately gives birth to some memories. Therefore, in yoga sadhana, memory is also controlled and desires are controlled. Every memory results in some desire or the other. Whatever you remember, there will be some desire from it somewhere, right? If you remember the sweets, then you will think, let's eat it some day, it is a very good sweet. Or that they had prepared very good food. Every memory gives birth to some aspiration. Our ancestors were such brave people, this memory will give us a feeling of bravery. We should also become brave. That is why those who are evil or those who are slaves of the evil people in India at this time, there are many people who call themselves Hindutva loyalists etc. who are actually slaves of the intelligence of those evil people. Due to stupidity, due to ignorance, those who want to destroy you, those who want to destroy Sanatan Dharma and the Hindu nation, the people who are slaves of them have the most arrogance that we will strengthen the Hindu nation and we are living for the Hindu nation. But when that memory is corrupted, they keep on saying that we have always been slaves, oh what are we? Our ancestors were like this, we did not do even this, we did not do even that. Guilt is the feeling of slavery. When you have a feeling of inferiority, guilt, then what good will you do for the society? You will become a psychopath. So there are people whose memory is corrupted. If your memory is corrupted, if your memory leads to depression or guilt, if your memory is such that you have guilt towards yourself, your ancestors, your nation, your religion, you are dejected, your mind is shrunken, now it is not even dejected, it is distorted, you have projected something on yourself that did not even happen. Your enemy said that you were defeated badly by the Muslims. You also memorized it:- Yes, yes, what can we say, Muslims are very mean, they have been killing us.
Hey brother, when did they kill? Did they kill your father? Did they kill your father's father? Who did they kill? Who are you talking about? Here there are many accounts of kings, of all Rajput kings. Keep reading accounts of the Marathas. There are accounts of bravery. Yes, it is correct to say that the enemy was very mean, sinful, evil, a demon, we set him right like this. Even after suffering so and so. They killed our son. They killed everyone. Even then we remained steadfast on religion. So our ancestors, brave ancestors, their memory is like this. It is just one incident. They remember his injustice, his misdeeds but with their bravery that he was so unjust, we defeated him, we crushed him, we controlled him. This is the means of memory.
If you did not do it then what do you keep saying? This is such a country for 2000 years, some foolish people say that the country was a slave for 2000 years. Your father must have been a slave. Your ancestors must have been slaves. There has been only prosperity here. India is the largest warrior society in the world. What all do you say about it.
If your memory is corrupted then what will happen? You will not even have aspirations. One whose memory is corrupted, whose memory leads to depression, whose memory about the country is such that it depresses his mind, then he will not do anything. ‘Gandivam srasate hastaat tvakchaiva paridahyate.’ (1/30) Gandiva is slipping from the hand, the skin is burning with worry. What is the condition before that:- ‘Sidanti mam gaatraani, mukham cha parishushyati.’ The body is getting weak and the mouth is getting dry.
If Arjuna is in such a state that he started sweating, his body started trembling and Gandiva started slipping from his hand. Because of memory. He remembered that oh this will happen, oh that will happen. Then if you have such memory about the country that makes you feel that everything is darkness, then you are of no use. You are a psychopath. You are of no use to the country. You are not stronger than Arjuna, are you? When Arjuna himself started trembling, when Arjuna’s Gandiva slipped, when Arjuna’s body started burning, then you will have burning for the rest of your life. If you develop remorse for India, then your mind will be jealous throughout your life, your intellect will remain frustrated, you will remain indifferent. So how to cultivate memory? For this, stability of mind is essential. ‘Vyavasayatmikaa buddhi: Ekeh kuru nandan’. Concentration. How should be the concentration of intellect? How should be the concentration of mind? We will discuss this in the next issue.
