Despite the advancement of modern medical science, the number of diseases like diabetes, hypertension and cancer is increasing rapidly. Amidst this growing health crisis, fasting and a balanced diet are being seen as an effective solution. Fasting not only rejuvenates our body, but it can also help prevent and cure diseases.
Fasting: A step towards health freedom
Fasting allows a person to self-manage health, reducing dependence on medicines. It plays an important role in both prevention and treatment of diseases.
Growing problem of chronic diseases
The number of diseases like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease is increasing rapidly. The effectiveness of existing medical practices is being questioned, as the number of diseases is increasing instead of decreasing.
Types of fasting
Intermittent fasting – Eating in fixed time periods (eg 16:8, 18:6).
Calorie Restriction – Limiting the total calorie intake, but maintaining nutrition.
Time-Restricted Feeding – Eating within a specific time frame.

Metabolic Benefits of Fasting

Cellular regeneration and autophagy – Cleansing and rebuilding of body cells.
Aids in weight management – Helps burn fat and preserves muscle mass.
Promotes metabolic health – Reduces inflammation and oxidative stress.
Fasting and Nutrient Balance
Vitamin D – Increases its effectiveness in the body.

Helps in nutritional balance – Promotes absorption of essential nutrients.
Approaching fasting from a holistic perspective
●     Fasting should be chosen according to the needs of the individual.
●     Inclusion of a balanced diet along with fasting is essential.
●     Fasting is also beneficial for mental and spiritual health.
Misconceptions about fasting
Fasting does not mean consumption – Some people consume high-calorie food (fried items) during fasting, which is not beneficial.
Wrong food choices – Eating processed and sugary foods during fasting negates its benefits.
Right fasting – Focus on water, herbal teas, and light nutritious food.
Scientific research and evidence
●    Research has found fasting to be effective in preventing diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
●     A strong link has been found between calorie restriction and longevity.
●     Acceptance of fasting is also increasing in the Western medical world, which is a sign of its integration into modern medicine.
Psychological factors and fasting
Positive mindset is necessary – Adopting fasting as a lifestyle provides long-term benefits.
Personal adaptation is necessary – Fasting should be adopted keeping in mind the physical and mental condition of each individual. Making fasting a part of lifestyle – It should be adopted as a long-term health method rather than a temporary measure.
A New Approach in Health Care
Health Freedom – Fasting enables a person to take control of his/her own health.
New Approach to Medicine – It helps prevent, manage and potentially cure chronic diseases.
A Confluence of Ancient and Modern Medicine – Fasting is a combination of traditional wisdom and scientific research.
