Water is the basis of the life of the universe. There are many sources of getting water in the world. The most important of which is rain. We get this rain from Parjanya. But we get this rain only under the laws of nature or is there any other way or solution. The Vedas give us the answer to this-
Nikame Nikame Nah Parjanyo Varshatu l Yajurved- 22.22
That is, whenever we want it to rain and it rains. There are many such mantras in the Vedas, from which it becomes clear that we can make it rain as per our wish. But not only by desire, for this we have to make some efforts, we have to do some experiments and that experiment is Yagya. We can make it rain through Yagya, that is, there is such power in Yagya that it can cause rain by creating clouds. That is why it is said in the Atharvaveda-
Tantya Yagyam Bahudhah Visrishta- Atharva Veda - 4. 15.16
That is, when it is necessary to cause rain, various types of sacrifices should be performed.
Aetanyagne Navatirnava Twe Ya Ahutanyadhirtha Sahastra l
Temivardhasya Tanvah Sur Purvirdivo No Vrishtimishito Ririhi II
Rigved- 10.98.10
By offering Charu along with 99 thousand aloes in the fire, the fire increases with many flames. it rains from the sky makes you receive.
-Adhyatma Sudha- 4, Swami Vigyananand
Saraswati, Page- 289
Considering the meanings of the hymns of Rigveda, it becomes clear that according to the Vedas, rain can be caused by Vrishtiyya. The welfare of everyone is possible only through rain in the rainy season, so at such a time the king should organize Vrishtiyagyas.
Arsh Jyoti, Dr. Ramnath Vedalankara
Consideration on Rigveda- 10.98 in, p.- 237
In the Atharva Veda, the rain (clouds) is called our father:
Mata Bhumi Putre Aham Prithivyah Parjanyah Pita Sa U Nah Piturta l
Atharvveda- 12.1.12
That is, the land is our mother and we are the sons of Prithvi and Parjanya, the creator of everything through rain, is our father. It is wished in Yajurveda that-
Sannah Kanikradaddevah Parjanyo Abhivarshatu I -Yajurved 36.10
This means divine rain thunder with lighteningand produce rain from all sides. Yaskiya Nirukta With Nirvachan have explained the importance of Parjanya.
Parjanyah Par Utakrishto Janyita Aushadhi Vanaspatinam I -Yaska Nirukta- 10.12
That is, the rain, the producer of medicine and plants, is the best. The birth of Parjanya is for others. The Niruktaka, explaining the sacrifice, says:
Yena Sadanushtanena Indraprabhrtayo Devah Suprasannah Suvrishti Kuryustad Yajnapadabhidheyam
- Yajna Mimansa
This means the best ritual by which the sun and other gods make favorable rain, that is called Yagya.
The Soma-huti of the Rig Veda is desired in the mantra of the sage Bhārgava and the deity Agni:
Sa no vrsti divaspari sa no vajmanarvānam. Sa Nah Sahastrinirishih ll
Rigveda - 2.6.5
This mesns this fire ensures rain and sunlight. But how to perform yagya.
Ghritam Pavasya Dharya Yagyeshu Devavitam I Asmabhyam Vrishti Ma Pava II
- Rigved 9.49.3
Drip a stream of ghee for rain.
In 1/16 mantra of Yajurveda, Yagya has been called Varshavridham. That is, it has been said to increase the rain. In Samaveda too, Yagya is considered as a means of rain.
Ayanta Indra Soma nipūto adhi barhisi ehamsya drava pib l
Samveda- 159
That is, when humans prepare Som for Indrayag for rain, then by praising God, perform Som's Havan in the fire, so that the fire named Indra starts running and after drinking Som, it rains.
That is, the intense fire of the sacrifice produces clouds and the dense clouds produce rain.
A te Suparna aminantam evai Krishno nonava Vrishbho Yadidam I
Shivabhirna Smayamanabhiragat Patanti Mihah Stanyantyabhra II
Rigveda 1.79.2
That means O fire! When my superpowers strike the cloud from all sides, then the rain cloud of black color bends this way. It is filled with peaceful smiling lightnings, then the clouds thunder and the clouds rain.
Not only in Vedas, but also in Manusmriti, Yagya has been considered as the main reason for rain.
Agnau Prastahutih Samyam Adityajajayate Vrishtirvrishttennam Tatah Prajah ll
Manusmriti- 3.76
That is, the sacrifice which is offered in the Ahavaniya Agni according to the ritual is obtained by the sun in the world. As a result of which the sun the rain.
Srimad Bhagavad Gita also states:
Annad bhavanti bhutani parjanyadanna-
sambhavah l
Yagyadbhavati Parjanyoyagyah Karma Samudbhavah II Geeta 3.14
That is, clouds are formed from sacrifice, rain is produced from cloud and food is produced from rain.
It is not only described in Vedas, Upanishads, Brahmin texts, Manusmriti and Gita etc. that rain is possible through Yagya, its accurate use have also happened. This is not a pure imagination, but it has also been given a procedural form by the scholars. Many such rain sacrifices were performed at different places and they were also successful. Clouds are not only rained by Yagya, but clouds are also created. So it can rain even if the sky is not cloudy. But all these actions are not possible without fire. This sentence of Vrajam Gachch Gosthanam Varsha, Yajurveda- 1.25 clarifies that the Yagya we perform goes to the clouds and rains at a particular place on the earth.
Uses of rain sacrifice
1. Ved Vigyanacharya Pt. Veersen Vedshramiji (Indore, M.P.) writes - I have completed about 25 tests for conducting Vrishtiyagya. Many other people have also performed Yagyas, they too have been completely or partially successful.
2. In the 25.10.87 issue of Arya Jagat Sarvadeshik, New Delhi, Mr. Ramesh Muni Vanprasthi wrote an article titled 'Correct method of Vrishti Mahayagya', in which he told that from 21.8.87 to 27.8.87 he worked in Arya Samaj, Adarsh Nagar, A rain ceremony was performed in Jaipur, due to which it rained heavily there.
3. In 1973, Vrishti Yagya was successfully organized in the presence of Swami Agnidev Bhishma ji in the premises of Arya Samaj, Nagori Gate, Hisar.
4. Dr. Kamalnarayan Arya, Vedic environmentalist, has so far conducted 25 Vrishtiyagya in his lifetime in Raipur. The work of Vrishtiyagya is still going on, his knowledge is exemplary.
Thoughts of Maharishi Dayanand ji regarding Vrishtiagya-
1. The substances used for performing the Hotra, which are put in the fire, generate smoke and steam. Those atoms live on the basis of air in the cloud, then they become clouds and rain from them, medicines from rain, food from medicines, metals from food, bodies from metals. It is made Rigvedadi (Commentary) Introduction Vedas Subject Thoughts
2. Those humans are the best donors, who protect the forests through Yagya and cause a lot of rain by building water bodies.
3. Those who specially know the rain causing wind and fire etc., they are able to inspire them to rain.
4. Human beings need the growth of the cloud that sustains everyone, planting trees, protecting forests and performing holy rituals prove it so that everyone can follow it happily.
5. The yagya that is meant for rain should be performed to create different types of happiness. Because the purification of air and rain water by the performance of Yagya proves immense happiness in the world.
6. Man should collect the substances well with his science and perform the ritual of Yagya from it, which is going to increase the rain.
7. Havan etc. performed in celibacy etc. rituals purify the wind and rain water, it rains pure water, by which the living beings born on the earth are satisfied.
8. When the learned people purify the waters with the scented substances, then they get praise.
9. The air containing the atoms of the fragrant substance rises in the sky by the fire and makes it rain. Yajna increases the vapor load in the space, which causes rain. That is, when rain is done, then the medicines that cause rain are put in it, then they take water vapor along with them. These vapors and gases go up and become clouds and start merging with the already existing clouds. Due to which their weight starts increasing, this increase causes rain.
Letters of Maharishi Dayanand ji regarding Vrishti Yagya
First letter- Wrote to Maharaja Sajjan Singh of Udaipur on August 10-15, 1883- 'For health and more rain, get 10,000/- rupees in a year done in the same way as it was done every year. By describing the Brahmins of the four Vedas, a well-versed religious man will get them done by placing them on him.
The second letter was written on September 8, 1883, to Shrimadraj Rajeshwar, King of Jodhpur - Rainfall is usually less, for this Rs. 10,000/- will be given daily for Ghritadi and more Hotra for four months during the rainy season. If this continues to happen every year, it is possible that there will be less disease and more rainfall in the country. (Courtesy Dayanand's letter and advertisement by Ramlal Kapoor Trust)
Swami Dayananda Saraswati has mentioned in the Yajurveda commentary and other texts composed by himself the making of Havirdravya with the four qualities of sacrifice. For example-
Agnihotramarabhyashwamedhaparyanteshu Yagyeshu Sugandhimishtapushta-
Rognashakgunaryuktasya Samyak Sanskarena Shodhitasya Dravyasya
Vayuvrrishtijalashuddhikarnarthamagnau Homo Kriyate Sa Taddhara Sarvajagatsukha karyeva Bhavati l
In the sacrifices from the Agnihotra to the Ashwamedha, the fragrant, sweet and nourishing- by proper rituals endowed with anti-inflammatory properties purified substance is burnt in the fire to purify the air, rain and water, and by this it is the cause of the happiness of the entire universe. The rituals from Agnihotra to Ashvamedha involve the burning of four types of qualified substances. They are as follows: First, fragrant musk, saffron, agar, tagar, white sandalwood, cardamom, nutmeg, javitri, etc. Secondly, nourishing ghee, milk, fruits, tubers, grains, rice, wheat, urad etc. Thirdly, sweet sugar, honey, honey, grapes, etc. Fourthly, anti-inflammatory tenderness, i.e., medicines such as giloy.
Saffron-musk etc. fragrance, aloe-milk etc. nutritious, jaggery-sugar etc. sweet and somaltadi medicine curative-these four types of substances with intelligence, bravery, patience, strength and healing properties, by doing homa of them wind and By purifying the rainwater, by combining pure wind and water, the supreme goodness of all the substances of the earth, it gives ultimate happiness to all the living beings. For this reason, the people who do that Agnihotra-karma also get the benefit of immense happiness by doing good to the living beings and God is also pleased with these people. It is very appropriate to do the meaning of Agnihotradi for such purposes.
