To keep the tradition of diagnostic texts intact, after a long time, in the 21st century, a huge book named Saumitreyanidanam was written by the revered Acharya Balkrishna Ji, an expert in Ayurveda and botany and a lover of the Sanskrit language. |
Since ancient times, the continuous flow of 'Ayurveda' religion, artha etc. considering 'Arogya' as the core in the accomplishment of Purushartha Chatushtaya, the sequence of human health and ad-hoc treatment has been going on continuously since the beginning. Ayurveda knowledge obtained from 'Shruti tradition' was compiled in texts as per the need of the time. As a result, there exists a vast literature of Ayurveda for human welfare. Ayurveda, integrated with various types of medical methods, has been divided into eight parts like Kayachikitsa etc. This Ashtanga Ayurveda is basically three formulaic. According to Acharya Charak, Brahma was the first to understand the threeformula Ayurveda in the form of Hetu, Linga and medicine –
Hetulingaushadhgyan Swasthaturayanam, Trisutram Shashwatam Punyam Bubuddhe Yam Pitamaha (Ch. San. Su. 1.24)
Thus 1. Hetu (cause of origin of disease), 2. Linga (symptoms of disease and health), and 3. Aushadha (beneficial treatment for healthy and sick person Procedure)- The budding form of these three is Ashtanga Ayurveda. 'Diagnosis' and 'Treatment' in Ayurvedic Ashtanga has a special significance. Considering the importance of pathology, independent books were also written based on 'diagnosis'. The oldest book 'Madhavanidanam' written by Madhavkar is available on this subject. Apart from this, Hansrajnidan, Amjannidan, Siddhantanidan etc. are notable books based on diagnosis. In this sequence, to keep the tradition of diagnostic texts intact, after a long time, in the 21st century, a huge book named Saumitreyanidanam has been composed by the revered Acharya Balkrishna ji, an expert in Ayurveda and botany and a lover of Sanskrit language, which will be launched on August 7, 2024 by the Vice Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, Shri Srinivas Barkhedi, Central Ayurvedic.
It was done by Yogrishi Swami Ramdev Ji, the propagator of Vedic culture, in the presence of experts in Ayurveda and Sanskrit like Professor Ravinarayan Acharya, Director General of Council of Scientific Research, Vaidya Shri Jayant Devpujari, Chairman of National Commission for Indian Medicine and Professor (Vaidya) Rakesh Sharma, Chairman of Ethics and Registration Board in National Commission for Indian Medicine.
The distinctiveness of the Saumitreya diagnosis
Saumitreyanidanam is a verse-based large Ayurvedic diagnostic book written in classical style related to diseases. It has been written by the author with the resolve to protect the health of all human beings in the world and to cure the diseases of patients suffering from various diseases. Along with treating all diseases with Ayurveda in the modern era, the author also wants to spread the knowledge of all diseases to the readers who study Ayurveda. This book will be extremely useful for medical practitioners and policy makers related to public health through all the methods related to the health of the patient including Ayurveda and will prove to be helpful like a friend for those who desire complete health in moving towards a disease-free life. The knowledge given by many previous sages of Ayurveda This book, composed of the essence of diagnosis, will prove to be very useful like a foundation stone in building a healthy and disease-free society. By observing ancient and modern texts from a holistic point of view, apart from the diseases described in the ancient scriptures of Ayurveda, those diseases which are inadequately described in the previous scriptures and the new diseases currently available in the world, can also be treated in this book.
It has been included in the book. 500 diseases have been placed under 471 disease headings in the book, out of which 234 are ancient diseases, while 237 current diseases have been described by naming them with new names. The book has been classified into 14 sections in the order of anatomy. In all the sections diseases are described in alphabetical order. Each disease has three divisions: nature, diagnosis and symptoms. The text used 18 verses: Anustup, Indravajra, Upendravajra, Upjati, Vanshastha, Indravansha, Vishisht Upjati (Vanshastha, Indravansha), Drutavilambita, Bhujangaprayat, Praharshini, Vasantatilaka, Malini, Panchachamara, Shikharini, Prithvi, Mandakranta, Shardulvikridit and Sragdhara has been. It is noteworthy that the same 18 verses have been used in the introduction to the text. It is divided into two parts for the convenience of the reader. The first part of it describes diseases from the first to the fifth section (Disease Nos. 1-260) and the second part of the text contains the diseases from the sixth to the fourteenth section (Disease Nos. 261-471). In the Appendix to Part I, an index of the diseases to be described in Part II is added, while the Appendix to Part II also contains the index to Part I. For the convenience of the reader, the Sanskrit nomenclature of all the new words used in the text is placed in the Appendix, which contains more than 400 new words. About 2500 medical conditions are also described in the appendix of the book.
It is also a specialty of this book that all the 500 diseases have been divided into shlokas according to the sections, due to which it will be easy to remember all the diseases of the book. The shlokas of diseases have been sung rhythmically and the audio form of the shlokas of the entire book has also been presented with the help of QR Code. For the people with less knowledge of Sanskrit, the difficulty has already been solved by giving the meaning of each word used in the shloka. With the aim of making the book useful for the people of the entire world, the book has also been translated into English by presenting the shlokas along with their phonetics and form, diagnosis and symptoms in English for the knowledge of the people with less knowledge of Sanskrit.
Authenticity and usefulness of Saumitreyanidanam
For the observation and subjective review of the Soumitreyanidanam Granth from the Ayurvedic point of view on its classicality, relevance, usefulness, purity and authenticity, a two-day seminar was organized from 7th August to 8th August courtesy Patanjali University and Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, in which about 50 eminent Ayurveda and Sanskrit scholars from all over India presented their views and critical views. One thing was common among all of them that Soumitreyanidanam is an authentic and unique such a book, which will be extremely useful for the medical world-
1. The most revered Swami Ramdev ji Maharaj said about the book 'Saumitreyanidanam' that it is an original, timeless, unique creation, an incomparable presentation. This was a huge task. The creation is in 6821 verses in 18 meters, along with translating it into Hindi and English and making it complete by Rishi was a challenging task to cover and express the entire subject with commitment in accordance with tradition. Special congratulations should be given to revered Acharyashree and the entire group of scholars. Today, the launch of 'Saumitrayanidanam' here is a historic work in itself.
2. Vice Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, Professor Srinivas Barkhedi said that "With the advent of this book, a historic new era has begun in the history of Ayurveda. Today, the seeds of the scriptures have been sown on this Sanskrit land. Acharya Balkrishna ji has watered this agriculture with the water of his experience. A new diagnostic seed has been produced by him. It is our job to make it a tree, to get its fruits and flowers. Like Ashtangahridaya, this original book will also shine in the field of Ayurveda for thousands of years." "It is not chewing gum, but is completely new." According to him, it has sufficient material for research on new words, metals and new definitions.
3. According to Professor Ravinarayan Acharya, Director General of Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, a science and discipline is not scientific until it is advanced and refined according to the times. He further said that the specialty of Saumitreyanidanam makes it the best that it is an original work and almost all the new diseases have been included in it after research as per the modern perspective.
4. According to Professor (Vaidya) Rakesh Sharma, Chairman, Ethics and Registration Board, National Commission for Indian Medicine, this book will prove to be a milestone in the field of Ayurveda. This is a unique work in itself and its importance is further enhanced by the fact that by presenting the meaning of each word of every shloka along with it, excellent work has been done in the direction of dictionary and semantics for the readers of Ayurveda. It should be included in the syllabus of every Ayurveda institute from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, so that all the students can benefit from its speciality.
5. National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Chairman Vaidya Shri Jayant Devpujari said that "Work will continue for a long time on the Saumitreyanidanam Granth in relation to Ayurveda. This has started a new tradition in this direction. The initiation of stating the unsaid has been done by revered Acharya ji. This is a complete Granth from the point of view of Panchnidan and Ayurveda. He further advised that revered Acharya ji should also do research work on the subject of pathology of the ancient book Nadi Tattva Darshan."
6. Professor Vaidya Madhav Ashtikar, present from Datta Meghe Ayurveda College of Medical Sciences and Dispensary, Nagpur (Maharashtra), gave a presentation on the topic of "Granthasya Tantragunadosha-yuktyatmakam Adhyanam The distinction between motivational objections, sensory objections etc. according to age in epilepsy described in Saumitreya has been done very well , consequently with the presentation of the meaning of each term, etc., it is a unique text, which will continue to guide many generations to come in his consultation on the classification of diseases while giving this, he also advised for the combination of attainment as a bridge between the cause and the symptom.
7. While reviewing the book, Dr. Abhijit H. Joshi, Vice Chancellor of Deshbhagat University Punjab said that I consider it to be a diagnosis of diseases based on Atharvaveda rather than an Ayurvedic diagnosis book. While giving advice, he said that research work should also be done on Atharvaveda in the subject of Ayurveda.
8. Dr. Banamali Biswal, Director, Central Sanskrit University, Sri Sadashiv Campus, Puri, Odisha said that an excellent work has been presented by using the language of the book and various verses like Shardulavikridit in it. A commendable work has been done by using the new Sanskrit vocabulary and presenting the solution to the difficulties of the scriptures by showing it in the appendix part.
9. Dr. Sandeep Singh Tiwari, Associate Professor, Department of Diagnosis, All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi, said that as far as I have seen Soumitrayanidanam, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used commendably in the form of QR Code by singing the verses of the book, which is an unprecedented effort in the field of Ayurveda. This is a great achievement for people engaged in the practice of Ayurveda. This method will prove extremely useful.
Apart from this, auditoriums of Patanjali University from all over India 35 other scholars, experts in Ayurveda and Sanskrit language, also attended the function and presented their critical views on the Soumitrayanidanam book, in which one thing was common that by creating this great book in modern times, the Ayurveda world as well as the entire world has been benefited. For thousands of years, it will continue to benefit the readers and seekers of Ayurveda with its light. This statement of the author-
Ayushyavedasya Kriteshcha Tasyah Sadvartmane Cha Bhavishyakale l Chadhyayanam Chikitsakrantim Prakuryurjagatiha Noonam ll
(Indra)"
Soumitrayanidanam will bring a new revolution in the world of Ayurveda for study and treatment in the field of Ayurveda in the present and for many years to come." In fact, this statement of the author is accurate and full of truth and is absolutely true. Undoubtedly, this is a complete and unique Ayurvedic diagnosis. On behalf of 'Vedic Vag Jyoti', hearty congratulations and best wishes to Acharya Balkrishna ji for writing this important book. Not only hope but full confidence that this work will make its important place in public interest and will make an important contribution in advancing the Indian knowledge tradition.
