Divya Jivan

Divya Jivan

Sadhvi Devashruti, Vaidik Kanya Gurukulam

The word life is coined from vital energy in Sanskrit Language, it means that the activity of conceiving vital energy is called life. The Indian saints have tried to define it various types in their own words—as Maharshi Vyas says that habit of entire sense organs arising out of reservoir of vital energy is called ‘life’. Samastendriyavritih pranadilakshana jivanam’. Habit arising out of flame of fire put in entire sense organs is called ‘life’. Samastanamindriyanam tushajvalavad ya yugapaduthita vritih sa jivanashabdavachya’. According to Maharshi Vatsyayan, sadehasyatmano manasa sanyogo vipatyamanakarmashayasahito jivanamishyate means assimilation of mind with soul including body remains religious. It’s called life. Maharshi Charak says that—‘sharir-indriya-satva-atmasanyogo dhari jivitam’ nityamah cha anubandhah cha paryayaih aayuh uchyate, means the assimilation of body, purity and soul is called life. The life is an opportunity to raise consciousness to higher level and express entire capability which is in the form of seed. The entire universe is seen as two types—first torpid world and other conscious world. Those which has life is called consciousness or living and those which has no life is called non-living. Human life is the best of this conscious world. The human life is the ultimate creation of the God. Therefore, it’s every human being’s duty to make effort to realize the aim of this human life. It’s great effort to transform this life into divine life.
Paropakaraya phalanti vrikshah
Paropakaraya vahanti naddah I
Paropakaraya duhanti gavah
Paropakararthamidam shariram II
It means that everything made by the God is meant for welfare work. Therefore, this body is also meant for welfare work. The human being has three ways—body, speech and mind- to do welfare work. When somebody does divine duty through body, speech and mind, then his life gets transformed into divine one. It means that for making the life divine, the body, speech and mind need to be healthy and mighty, true and pure and peaceful respectively. All these activities are possible through tap. Because Maharshi Vyas say—‘natapasvomp yogah siddhyati’ means yog of the people doing no tap fails to get completed.
The body needs to be healthy and mighty for divine transformation of life because ‘shariramadyam khalu dharmasadhnam’ means the body is the first step of religion. To keep body healthy and mighty, the human being must do yog exercise daily, take nutritious and pure diet and proper sleeping and practise celibacy. If somebody fails to observe any of the four practice, he/she will fall sick. Therefore, a wiseman should keep attention on four aforesaid things to keep his body healthy. In the Gita, Yogeshwar Shrikrishna says—
Yuktaharaviharasya yuktacheshtasya karmasu I
Yuktaswapravabodhasya yogo bhavati dukhaha II
Those who behave as per the shloka of Shrimadbhagwadgita, they get rid of all the diseases. The duty and speech must be proper and true respectively. Highlighting this as the tap of speech in the Gita, Lord Shrikrishna says—
Anudvegakaram vakyam satyam priyahitam cha yat I
Swadhyayabhyasanam chaiva vadgmayam tapa uchyate II
The seeker’s speech must not excite anybody. It must contain truth. Maharshi Manu says this—
Satyam bruyat priyam bruyat na bruyat satyampriyam I
Priya cha nanritam bruyat eshe dharmah sanatanah II
It means that the human being must speak truth. But at the same time, the people must not utter bitter truth which may cause loss to somebody else. But it doesn’t mean that they should utter lovey untruth. Their speech must contain purity and austerity. They should avoid false statement. This is nothing but sanatan religion. The speech is the best way to expression intention. It’s the speech which caused the destructive war like Mahabharata. But at the same time, such speech also helps the people settle their house. A poet says—batai hathi paiye batai hathipaon means the human being gets elephant through his sweet speech and he is killed by the elephant due to his bitter speech. Therefore, Kabirdas says—
Aise wani boliye man ka aapa khoy I
Auran ko shital kare aapahun shital hoy II
Moreover Maharshi Patanjali says in the Yogdarshan—‘satyapratishthayam kriya phalashryatvam’ means when the speech gets assimilated with truth, then speech becomes active. Therefore, the seeker’s speech must be true, pure, serene, etc to get divinity in his life.
Mind is the third and most mighty mean because it directly related to soul which enjoys and acknowledges subjects of sense organs. It’s said that – ‘man ke jeete jeet hai, man ke hare har’. Acharya Chanakya says—‘man eva manushyanam Karanam bandhamokshyoh’ means the mind is the root cause of emancipation and bondage. Highlighting mental tap in the Gita, Yogeshwar Lord Shrikrishna says—
Manah prasadah saumyatvam manamatmavinigrahah I
Bhava sanshuddhirityetat tapo manasamuchyate II
It means that happiness of mind, simplicity, silence and self control and purity of intention are called mental tap. The behaviour of this mental tap, the mind gets strengthened, pure, peaceful and happy. Highlighting ways for happiness of mind, Lord Shrikrishna says-
Ragadveshviyuktaistu vishayanindriyaishcharan I
Aatmavashyairvidheyatma prasadmadhigachchhati II
Prasade sarvaduhkhanam hanirasyopajayate I
Prasannachetaso hvashu buddhih paryavatishthate II
It means that those who controls their mind and internal soul remain blissful while getting rid of longing and thinking subject of sense organs. The blissful soul checks entire distress because those who are happy becomes intellectual.
No instrument functions as fast as mind. It’s the human being who has mind. Therefore, the human being can express the mind fully. Knowing reality of strength of mind and utilizing it through sadhana are the most important duty and responsibility of the human being. Controlled mind functions as mighty horse runs as per the charioteer and reaches the destination with utmost safety.
The mind has been divided into five parts on the basis of separate works—1. Daiv mind, 2. Yaksh mind, 3. Pragyan mind, 4. Consciousness, 5. Dhritiman.
