The season is synonymous with time and the meaning of charya is food according to doctors. Taking food according to rules in various seasons is called ritucharya. Apart from food, seasons and climate also affect our body. A disorder appears in a particular season, while other keeps silent. Similarly, other disorder erupts in other season, while another remains silent. Therefore, health of human beings is deeply related with the seasons. Therefore, ayurveda provides for different food items according to disorders in every season.. |
Ayurveda describes six seasons- Prewinter, winter, summer, spring, monsoon and autumn.

Prewiner and winter seasons are included in winter season (mid November to mid March). We will discuss beneficial panchkarma and special upakarma in prewinter and winter seasons.
The people feel physical prowess and hunger in prewinter and winter seasons. Soft, acidic and salted foods are advisable in this season.
Messaging
Applying oil whole body is called messaging. Use refined oil prepared with special medicines keeling in mind disease according to nature of human being.
Benefit
Messaging controls ageing, labour and pneumatic disorders. It improves sight, boosts body, brings good sleep, maintains skin beauty and keeps muscle fitness.

Padabhyang
Oil messaging on the sole of feet is beneficial to get rid of roughness, tiredness, desolation. It brings softness and rigidity to the feet. It improves eye sight. No crack appears on feet. It controls gridhrasi disease.
Precautions
Patients suffering from kafaz, vomiting, purgation, dyspepsia should avoid
padabhyang.

Murdhatail
Using liquid materials like oil variously is called murdhatail which is of four types-
-
Shiroabhyang- Messaging oil on head.

Shirahsek- Sprinkling oil on head.

Shiropichu- Putting cotton filled with oil on head.

Shirobasti- Putting oil on head.
Benefits
-
It’s used in itching, dinginess and other disorders of head.

It should be used to control small abscess, headache etc.

Shiropichu is beneficial in hair loss, cracking in head skin and eye inertia.

Shirobasti is useful in emptiness of head, ardit disease and sleeplessness.
Avagah sved
Making svedan in tub filled with kwath of anti pneumatic materials, milk, oil or warm water is called avagah sved.
Benefits
Avagah sved is useful in abdominal pain, gridhrasi, pneumatic disorder and rheumatism.
Uddartan
Do friction of medicine powder inversely is called uddartan which controls cough. It dries meddhatu and boosts body parts. It provides glowing to the skin. It controls bad odour, laziness, itching.
Mardan
It’s also called angmardan. Applying oil morganatically on the body is called mardan.
It’s used in skin pneumatic, neuron pneumatic, rheumatism, bone pneumatic.
Dhumrapan
Inhaling and exhaling smoke through mouth is called dhumpan.
It brings softness in chest and throat and controls cough.
Use of various types of oil
For healthy person- Bala or kshirbala oil
Peumatic- Peerantak oil, mahanarayan oil
Rheumatism- Saindhvadi oil
Lumbago/gridhrasi- Sahacharadi oil
Greevashul- Prasarini oil
Tvakavikar- Kayakalp
Shivatra- Somaraji oil
